There are many distortions of the Bible in today's version of Christianity. There is the Prosperity Gospel, the Hate Filled Gospel, the Hebrew Root Christianity, the Many Paths lead to God Gospel, the Political Gospel, it goes on and on and on.
And they are all either false, or un-necessary. God does not promise you wealth in this life; indeed Christ said believers would suffer on His account but that the rewards of eternal life would be given to those who withstood the trials. There is no room for hatred in the Gospel of Jesus Christ; Christ was clear when He told us to love our neighbors, to condemn not, to turn the other cheek and help the vulnerable. The Hebrew Root/Messianic Christianity which would have us return to the bindings of the Old Testament laws puts a huge burden upon the shoulders of believers, when Christ told us His yoke is easy and His burden is light. If we live by the Law, then we are judged by the law, and Christ came to free us from the burden that man made the law into. Christ told us He is the way, the truth and the life, that no one comes to the Father except through Him; so the teachings that we are all on our own paths is false, we cling to Christ or we are lost. The Political Gospel teaches that God has an agenda that expressly carried out by your political party of choice, which is false, for man's politics will always fall short of the plans of God, for they are focused on man held power. They distort the words of the Bible for their own gain.
Anytime you encounter a teacher that says, "I have a secret teaching from God," flee. Run from such a teacher. For God has put His Word, the Bible, into the world, and you can read it for yourself. If you sit in a church that urges you to hate people for their beliefs, lifestyles, political stances, ethnicity or any other reason- leave that church! If your pastor tells you that if you believe enough you will be given wealth, or if you tithe enough to his ministry you'll get a hundred fold in return then never return to his church; for he has distorted the Gospel so that he may make money off of you and nothing more.
The Psalmist tells us to hide the word of God within our hearts, so that we may not sin against the Lord (Psalm 119:11) and that is what every believer must do. The Bible teaches that apostasy will come and the only way a believer may guard against falling into apostasy is to study the Word of God frequently, storing the holy truths within our hearts and minds. Every message you hear from a pastor should be checked against the Bible, hold your pastor accountable to the Bible! For it is your own soul which is at stake, don't risk damnation by laziness or complacency.
There is only one true Gospel, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is held within the Bible; learn it, treasure it and let it guard your heart. So that on the day that you must appear before the Lord your name will be found in the Book of Life and your rejoicing will be great.
God's grace with you,
